What makes a volleyball good?

As with any sport you may attempt to play over the weekend while you're not organizing papers and shuffling between offices, you can select from many levels of quality and style when it comes to equipment like volleyballs. Looking for something that serves outdoors but is affordable enough that you don't care if it gets run over by a car? Or perhaps you're looking for something for the serious player in your family or for a mock Olympics in your backyard? If you're looking for the real thing, your first clue will be the United States Volleyball Association (USVA) endorsement seen somewhere on the box or ball.

Mikasa volleyballs

Mikasa enjoyed the privilege of producing the official volleyball of the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Their flagship volleyball is a swirl of vibrant blue and yellow with a dimpled surface. The construction is top notch, and the design does not follow the paneling of a traditional volleyball. The quality and endorsement from Beijing is seen in this volleyball's price. However, if you're serious, you'll love playing with this volleyball. And, if properly cared for, the Olympic volleyball will last years. In lower price ranges, Mikasa is known for their colorful take on the volleyball. Each volleyball producer offers vibrant colors on their volleyballs, but Mikasa wins when it comes to fun and selection.

Tachikara volleyballs

With a great variety in color, materials and sizes, Tachikara has been a major player in athletic balls for almost 100 years. Those offered at Hayneedle's VolleyballHQ.com represent the best they make, from the classic white with firm leather panels to softer models designed for casual indoor or outdoor play. If you're looking for something especially unique, we recommend checking out the hip Argyle volleyball from Tachikara. It's pink, so it may not be the best choice for the fellas. If your pride can't let you use a pink ball, try the vibrant, and unisex Tachikara dot volleyball.

Molten volleyballs

Molten is the brand used by the NCAA in competition. They have several premium volleyballs which reach prices of up to 80 dollars. These employ Japanese leather and are nylon-wound for firm, long lasting performance. Their classic construction and quality materials make them an excellent choice, but you'll notice their offerings are a bit more straight-laced than the vibrant beach volleyballs offered by other companies.
