Service with a smile

Serving is one of the most important facets of volleyball. The following is a volleyball drill designed to help you with your serving accuracy.

  • Serving relay is a fun volleyball drill that puts a little bit of pressure on the server. Two teams line up on the same side of the volleyball net. The first team to serve all their volleyball balls successfully wins. However, if a serve is missed, the person serving cannot stop serving until they make their serve. For more advanced players, make each team member serve the six positions on the court in order.

Blocking is an excellent but difficult strategy. Sometimes it is better not to an attempt a block. The following drill will help you decide which approach to take: block, hit the overpass, or step off the net and pass.

  • Net Decision is a drill that teaches blockers when to block, hit an overpass, or back off and pass. Three people will be blockers and three throwers. The three throwers will toss the volleyball over the net to the blocker and the blocker will decide to block, pass, or hit the ball. Repeat desired number of times.

Defense is an attitude. It's also one of the most important aspects of the game, as it keeps the ball in play on your side. The following is drill that is sure to strengthen your defensive skills.

  • No Fear Defense is a drill that teaches diggers an aggressive approach to get under balls that are hit down. The coach stands on a box at the net and hits to five players around the court. Each differ needs to get a set number of balls up to the setter before they can rotate out of the volleyball drill.
